Artist of the Month: Eric Skye October
2004 Pacific
Northwest based Eric Skye is a nationally noted acoustic jazz guitarist
that occupies a unique position by clearly being in the bluesy classic
jazz guitar soloist camp of Joe Pass and George Van Eps, while also having
a strong footing in the multitasking adventures and pristine acoustic
resonance of Leo Kottke and Pierre
Bensusan by way of his primary use of the acoustic steel string guitar.
His recordings and live performances are marked by eloquently stated tunes
with creative arrangements, passionate performances, and exciting technique.
The self-produced CD, Acoustic Jazz Guitar Solos, has received radio play
on stations in the United States, and in European countries such as Spain
and Germany. It was also featured on National Public Radio’s internationally
syndicated show All Things Considered. Local jazz station KMHD did a one
hour live interview/ performance with Eric, as did KPSU. Jazziz Magazine
did a piece on Eric in the June 03’ issue. Eric has also signed! product
endorsements with Taylor Guitars, Godin Guitars, Avalon Guitars, and the
Elixir String Company. Eric
uses K&K's Pure Classic and says: "Prior to this discovery
I was simply just not using my nylon guitar in public. I just wouldn’t
put a hole in the side of guitar, and I’m not a fan of under the saddle
pickups.... For me the Pure Classic was a slam dunk. I now have
great sound with something that doesn’t require me to have a battery inside
my guitar or piezo quack. It’s a very easy and affordable way to get to
a 'plug and play' set up. So now, for some of the Bossa tunes I do live,
and I reach over very confidently and grab my nylon string. Thanks guys." WWW.ERICSKYE.COM Return to Artists of the Month Archives |
