Bernd Eltze

In 1983, Bernd began playing on the German Rockabilly scene with his band "BoB Trip" alongside groups like the Jets, Keytones, and Chevy Cats. In 1986, he founded the German band "The Speedos," probably Germany's best-known and still existing Rockabilly band. For the last three years, Bernd, with the help of a Korean partner, has been building Cutaway Double Basses, which haven't been available since the 1960s. Bernd's basses are all outfitted with K&K pickups.

Bernd uses the many of K&K bass pickups: "In the mid 80s, I purchased my first K&K pickup for the upright bass. It was a model called True Bass and came with drill and rasp for perfect fitting into the bridge. Early on I pondered personalizing this pickup to be upgraded to a two-element system and acquired a Hot Spot and used the two pickups with a makeshift mixer. It was somewhat similar to the Rockabilly Bass System, and when K&K indtroduced that system to the market, I might have been one of the first buyers. In my opinion, there is no other system on the market that gives you such a balanced sound when it comes to great tone and slap. And having it all through just one output channel is perfection."
